Who Are We?

The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) is a membership organization comprising 100+ not-for-profit, community-integrated hospice and palliative care providers dedicated to ensuring patients and their families have access to care that reflects their individual goals, values, and preferences. Representing providers from 37 states and the District of Columbia, NPHI and its members help design more innovative and effective models of care, advocate for comprehensive and community-integrated care customized to meet each person’s unique needs, and build collaboration between national thought leaders, decision-makers, and other healthcare stakeholders to improve hospice care.

Together with our members, we ensure our most important priorities, policies, and initiatives are learned at the bedside, not in the boardroom.

The Difference We Make

People Over Profits, Every Single Time.

End-of-life care can only be done right the first time, which is why NPHI members are deeply committed to delivering care that honors every patient’s unique journey. Our members pour their hearts into providing the highest quality care, always in line with the individual’s wishes. Our unwavering commitment? People over profits, every single time.

NPHI members are committed to providing person and family-centered advanced illness care to ensure individuals can focus on quality and comfort during their final moments. Our members work tirelessly to set the standard for hospice care nationwide and we provide support to their critically important efforts.

Our fundamental goal is to positively influence how individuals and institutions think about the final stages of life and we are dedicated to supporting our members as they help individuals, and their families experience end-of-life care consistent with their goals, values, and preferences.

NPHI is distinguished by our dedication to our members and mission – our innovations are not driven by profit, but by patient and family needs. Our mandate is to help people live fully through the last stages of life – a notion that resonates with key decision-makers and stakeholders in health care as well as in the communities our members serve.

"We have one chance, one opportunity to help somebody die well."

Our Goals

We Innovate.

We Advocate.

We Collaborate.

We create, showcase and replicate innovations in hospice to improve the end-of-life care experience. All NPHI member programs are not-for-profit leaders in health care delivery and have spent decades providing high quality care to seriously ill patients within the communities they serve.

Their results have transformed the patient experience through the design and leadership of more effective and comprehensive models of care. Building upon their expertise, our members are working together to showcase and recreate their success to address the needs of Americans with serious illness.

We advocate for comprehensive community-integrated care that is customized to meet each individual patient’s and family’s needs. Building upon the decades of innovative care from its member programs, we engage thought leaders, decision makers, and health care stakeholders to strengthen the Medicare Hospice Benefit and, from its foundation, create new opportunities to ensure a comfortable and dignified last phase of life to which every American is entitled.

We engage national thought leaders, decision makers, and healthcare stakeholders to strengthen hospice care delivery and to take the holistic, patient and family centered, interdisciplinary, and personalized lesson of hospice upstream with key partners to ensure a safe, comfortable and dignified last phase of to life which every American is entitled.

Data Collection & Quality Initiatives

We create opportunities for members to build relationships, share best practices and discuss operational challenges through forums, educational resources, and an established member network of the best hospice care delivery organizations in the United States.

We engage and educate national thought leaders, decision-makers, and health care industry partners on innovations in health care with the goal of removing barriers to improve hospice care delivery and to take the lessons of hospice and apply them earlier in the continuum through innovative care models.

We aggregate, benchmark and report data from hospice programs beyond the Medicare requirements to facilitate comparisons across hospices, identify operational best practices, establish publicly-recognized standards for high-quality hospice care, to positively influence hospice trends to ensure accountability, transparency, and more person-centered care.
