Hurricane Helene Response: Supporting Our Impacted Members

Hurricane Helene has left a path of devastation across the United States, particularly affecting communities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Many of our member communities, including dedicated staff, patients, caregivers, and their families, have experienced significant loss — some have lost everything.

How You Can Help

We are working closely with our members to gather information from the hardest-hit areas. However, we rely on your input to ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information about those impacted. Please share any updates, resources, or fundraising efforts with us so we can make them available to the broader community.

Below, you will find updates on the impact of Hurricane Helene on our members, which we will continue to expand as more information is provided. Links to support efforts will also be added as they become available.

North & South Carolina Impact Summary – (10.1.2024)

In North Carolina, Hurricane Helene has affected people across 25 disaster counties (covering approximately 1,625,000 people), including the Cherokee Nation Reservation. There are 311 licensed home care, home health, and hospice agencies in these areas, serving thousands of employees, patients, and families.

South Carolina has also been impacted, with 85 agencies across 13 counties, including cities like Greenville, Spartanburg, Orangeburg, and Aiken. The beautiful city of Asheville and the surrounding Appalachian and Great Smoky regions were among the hardest hit.

As of September 30, North Carolina reports 400 roads blocked or destroyed, with limited access to water, cell service, Wi-Fi, gas, and open food stores. Agencies have reported distressing conditions, with helicopters deployed to assist in search efforts.
