Advanced Lung Care Patient and Caregiver Guide

Chronic lung disease poses a tremendous burden for the 34 million Americans affected, impacting not only their lives but also those of their families and caregivers. In 2016 alone, there were over 2 million emergency department visits and more than 650,000 hospitalizations due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a leading chronic lung condition.

In response, NPHI and the American Lung Association have joined forces to create the Advanced Lung Care Patient & Caregiver Guide. This invaluable resource equips individuals living with lung disease and their caregivers with essential skills to manage respiratory symptoms effectively at home, all while receiving guidance from their healthcare team.

The right mix of nutrients in your diet can help you breathe easier. Metabolism of carbohydrates produces the most carbon dioxide for the amount of oxygen used; metabolism of fat produces the least.
