A Summit for The Books!

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting our highly anticipated Annual Summit in Kansas City, and it was an incredible success.

Attendees heard from three key leaders at CMS, who emphasized their appreciation for the valuable insights provided by NPHI and our members. Their recognition reaffirmed the importance of our collaborative efforts in shaping healthcare policy and practice.

Our summit featured inspiring keynote addresses, including remarks by Dr. John Mach and former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy. Kennedy passionately urged our members to continue prioritizing mental health in healthcare delivery, setting a powerful tone for our collective goal to deliver the highest quality care. Following Kennedy, Carole Fisher, our President, laid the groundwork for a new resource on Trauma Informed Care that will be released in the coming weeks.

Throughout the summit, participants engaged in dynamic breakout sessions and heard from expert panels focused on topics such as workforce development, value-based care, and healthcare policy in Washington.

On Thursday, we proudly presented the inaugural Chirag Patel Legacy Award, granted posthumously to Dr. Chirag Patel and collected by his dear wife, Dr. Rana Patel. We look forward to presenting this award annually to an individual who embodies the spirit of innovation and provides compassionate health care, embodied by Chirag.

To conclude our time in Kansas City, we gathered for a memorable evening, a Summit Celebration dedicated entirely to our members. It was an unforgettable event filled with entertainment by Dr. Rosenkranz, the physician magician, and the hilarious actor Eric Stonestreet, who had our audience roaring with laughter.

During this special evening, we had the privilege of presenting two prestigious awards. The Champion of End-of-Life Care award was bestowed upon Christy Whitney Borchard, recognizing her exceptional dedication and contributions to NPHI. We honored Judi Lund Person with the Lifetime in Excellence Award, a testament to her remarkable achievements and enduring commitment to excellence in our field. Stay tuned as we’ll share more about our deserving awardees next week.

To all who attended, we hope you thoroughly enjoyed our summit, and we anticipate welcoming you back next year. A heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors for their generous support, and special appreciation to David Wiley and the team at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for their invaluable contributions in making our summit a resounding success.
